Ladybug is new to flying. Follow her across each brightly colored page as she makes lots of silly mistakes and runs into some of her animal friends.
Activities including fingerplays, songs, and readings:
Welcome: Greet everyone and ask how they are doing today. Introduce myself as Miss Amy and welcome any newcomers. Explain that we will be reading books, singing songs, and engaging in other fun activities. Explain that throughout storytime, we will learn the signs for various words, including how to sign "bug". At the end, we'll make a fun craft. Ask the kids if they can guess what we'll be reading about based on the books on display behind me. Talk a bit about insects to get started, then launch into our opening song, which we sing twice.

Activity: Flannel board activity - counting with ladybugs! Using 5 ladybugs made from felt, we will count the spots on each ladybug from 1 to 5. Below is a sample of a felt ladybug. After storytime and the completion of the craft, children are free to play with the ladybugs on the flannel board.

Hands-on Learning Component:
Craft: We'll make an insect garden picture using foam insects and cupcake liners.
Materials include:
8 1/2 x 11 paper, preferably in blue but white is good, too
crayons
cupcake liners
foam insects
glue sticks
leaves pre-cut from green construction paper

All caregivers are provided with the following handout, which includes the title and authors of the books we read, the songs we sang, and tips for helping children continue to learn and grown at home.
