Caregiver Involvement and/or ECRR2 Family Education:

Vocabulary – The stories reveal common and rare words about houses and homes including bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, windows, doors, walls, roof, fireplace, and rare words like cabin, cottage, pioneer, springhouse, icehouse, chimney, fireplace, shingles, shutters, staircase, hinges, foundation, cement, bricklayers, carpenters, plumber, electrician, and painters.

 

Background knowledge – The stories, songs, finger plays, and activities will enhance the children’s knowledge of their own homes and the words they use to describe its features. They will learn how a house is built and the compare house from today from the log cabins built during the pioneer days.

 

Phonological awareness – The songs and rhymes used in the storytime will reduce the word sounds into smaller sounds that the children will be able to identify and hear.
