Meme: Literacy Empowered Children Become Lifelong Library Advocates!
One-sentence Theme: When librarians respect and value the opinions, needs, and interests of the children in their libraries, the children are empowered to become life-long learners and library advocates in the future.
Competencies: Based on the ALSC Competency
VII. 2: considers the needs, opinions, and requests of children in the development and evaluation of library services.
a. Who is your target audience? Why is this group your target audience? |
Librarians are my target audience because they have the opportunity to support and encourage children throughout the community.
|
b. How does your advocacy story relate to the concept of social justice? |
Children need to be supported in reaching their full potential in society and library access is one way that children can find the information they need to reach that potential. Actively listening to children and valuing their interests, needs, and opinions when developing library collections and programs and evaluating their effectiveness encourages children to express themselves, develop their skills, and view the library as a positive environment for continued learning.
