ALA Core Competences

Technological Knowledge and Skills

4A. Information, communication, assistive, and related technologies as they affect the resources, service delivery, and uses of libraries and other information agencies.

Reference and User Services

5E. The principles and methods of advocacy used to reach specific audiences to promote and explain concepts and services.

Name of Tool and URL:

PowToon http://www.powtoon.com/

11. Description of Example and Its Use in the Library:
This animated PowToon could be utilized in a number of ways: It could be used in presentations to convey information to staff. It could also be used to convey event information to customers either on a library website, facebook, or on a television screen in the library.
12. Description of How the Example Capitalizes on the Tool's Potential:
Libraries strapped for cash don't need to hire professionals to create animated videos. This neat alternative allows libraries to advertise and share information in a graphic, eye-catching way.

Note: This Web 2.0 tool was created for LS5043 Information and Communication Technology course. This tool is great for creating presentations that can help promote programming related to early childhood and family literacy once I become a children's librarian serving in a public library.
